remington forend dont fit

I recently purchased 2-20 ga wingmaster forends. brand new old stock from a retired gunsmith. neither one will fit my express or wingmaster.
the hole for the tube is to big. my question is, are the magazine tubes larger on the old standard weight forends?

I have a '56 16 ga. here built on a full-size frame. It was built with mostly 12 gauge parts with the exception of the barrel and bolt. The forearm is one of my 12 ga.'s that I refinished.
I just bought a very old 20 ga. forearm (by accident) and it fits the slide just fine. The cut in the back is too narrow to fit around the receiver and the channel in the top is just a hair to narrow, even for the 16 gauge barrel. It barely rubs when the pump handle is full-back.
Still it's a workable piece and I am sure that I can adjust it fit.
I do not have a 20 ga. gun here but this pump handle is absolutely from a 20 and it fits my 12 and 16 ga. tubes fine.
I wonder if you got what you think.

they must be for the standard size 20 ga then. it has 20 stamped in the groove under the barrel. to bad they dont fit my gun their in perfect shape with the high gloss finish. thanks for the info

Remington has two different sized frames for the 20 ga. Standard and Lightweight. Parts apparently are not interchangeable between the two.

Your gun is most probably a lightweight, the forends are for a standard model.

Early 20 gauge and all 16 gauge 870s were built on the 12 gauge "V" frame.

The Lightweight 20 gauge frame now used for 20 and 28 gauge and 410 bore is smaller.

If your serial number ends with an "X" or "E", I believe this is correct, they use the 12 gauge stocks. All others will use the 20 gauge. The 20 gauge stocks are getting harder to find. I would suggest calling Boyd's and asking about availability if you want to keep it in a wood stock.
