Remington ETRONX

Has anyone tried the new Remington ETRONX rifle. Looked at one today and that trigger and near zero lock time are quite something.

They sure are. Got to see and handle one at the last gun show here. About the only thng I can say is "Solution looking for a problem" Anything with batteries worries me. After freezing your butt off waiting for the shot, you realize that your battery is dead and miss even getting to take the shot. We currently have rifles that shoot better than their operators, with mechanical firing. Do we honestly think that reducing lock time to near zero will make any difference to the hunters out there. MAY make a difference to the bench rest/competative shooters out there who train regularly and can actually take advantage of the current designs, but then how many of those are out there??? Solution looking for a problem.

Yer right, TAZ. And don't forget the ammo; WalMart in West BugTussle ain't gonna have it in stock.

I can see wheree it would be good for benchrest, but reloading for your "pet" tack-driving load might be a problem. Outside of that, I don't see the point...

Art, I bet you don't even own a DVD player, do you? :)

I think the concept is great but I'll wait until the Coonskin, MO Kmart has them in case-lots before I foot the bill for one. I don't believe in getting the newest toy on the block.

You guys may be right about new technolgy inf firearms.

I remember telling old Hugh Glass while trapping beaver along the Yellowstone river in 1823 that those new fangled precussion guns were not worth a plug nickle and nothing would EVER replace the flintlock.

Hummmm... a rifle with electronics inside it that uses an ignition key... sounds like just the ticket next time I take out into the swamps hog hunting... ;)

Also sounds like a great gun when Remington is standing up at the next photo shoot with the liberal gun grabbers: 'Look, it has a key! You can turn it OFF! We now have the technology, all others are obsolete!'

I'm not being sarcastic, with the way Remington's management is going, they're going to pull a 'Smith and Wesson' soon.

I build and work with computers everyday and I learned long ago that violence (recoil) and technology just don't mix... that's what I always tell people who tend to bounce their computers and they quit working.

I'd have to agree that this is sort of redundant as the mechanical systems and designs exceed most shooters abilities. And wait until it quits working with no warning during a benchrest match and you have to send your rifle to Taiwan or Tai-Something for repairs/replacement parts because Remington doesn't have a clue how it works.

If Remington wanted to make me happy (they don't) they'd bring back the VSSF in .308 and save the R and D money for better finishes and machinery that can properly drill and tap a M700 receiver...

I think I'll pass on any rifle that needs an extension cord. If I lose the key who do I call? AAA? ;) I can already see the future... the Etonix II... now with GPS in case you get lost the moment your feet hit the dirt and a cappucino maker for those 'quiet times', only available in .22LR. We wouldn't want you to actually have one of those big nasty calibers, you might hurt yourself...

badgerarms, nope, no DVD--but that's just because I ain't got no round tuit. :) I don't object to them, but with TV, computer, 50,000 acres of playground, my Tonka Toys and my guns--not to mention a whole bunch of books--I usually have plenty to do, already.

Turk: In the early days of the Mountain Men, they had one problem: A supply of caps, if they were to use caplock rifles. Flint was readily available in the West, and they could knapp their own.

I might be in the market for the E-gun, if it would make me a better shooter than I now am. The same reasoning holds true for any tool I ever buy: Will it help me do the job better or quicker? If not, it's just another toy, so I don't really need it. It looks like another one of those "If I won the Lottery" deals...

As usual, Art

For a field rifle, yeah, it's a solution looking for a problem. Now for a target rifle (or pistol) on the other hand...

I'd love to have an ISSF rapid-fire pistol with an Etronix-style trigger system.

Later,
Chris

I've actually fired one in 22-250. Nice rifle, nothing special, wouldn't trust the electronic stuff and as the others said, a solution to a problem that's not there. With the price of the gun and ammo, I'd just go with a souped up Rem 700.
