Don't mean to bother ya'll, I'm a cherry here, but would like some info on a Rem. dbl goose gun , 12 ga. 30" barrels Ser. 347484.
Came from my wifes grand father, not in bad shape, but a lead pipe to handle.

Thanx

Greetings and mich paul and welcome aboard,

You haven't given much to go on. Let's see, it can't be the Model 1889 because the serial number is too high, same for the Model 1894. The Model 1900's were made with numbers in the 300000 to 399000 range. The SPR210 and SPR220 are both 21st century guns that are way too new to be grandfathers.

My guess is that you have a Remington Model 1900 SxS. They were offered in 12 and 16-ga and in four grades:
K - Remington steel barrels
KE - Remington Steel, auto ejectors
KD - 2 stripe Damascus barrels
KED - 2 stripe Damascus, auto ejectors
The Model 1900 was offered as a lower priced version of the Model 1894 from 1900 to 1910. For a gun that's over a 100 years old, don't even consider shooting it without having it certified first.

And even if it IS certified safe- it may or may not have modern 2-3/4" chambers, it most likely will NOT be able to handle modern smokeless ammunition - however, they are low pressure vintager-style loads out there for older guns in shootable condition. As Zippymentioned - a proper going through by a knowledgeable smith is very much needed prior to firing.

Thanx

Thanx for the input. Yeah I didn't give Ya'll much to go on but at the same time I had little to work with. The firearm like I said is a tad on the heavy side (it is not in my possession at this time a brother inlaw has it as a wall hanger), as it had to go 10lbs. plus. The only markings on it were the Remington stamp and that number hence given. If it makes any difference the ser. # was stamped on the rear of the triggerguard where it mounted to the shoulder stock. The barrels did not seem to be "Damascus" but had no stamps other than Remington on the left barrel. This is not and external hammer gun.
In defference to the last post, I have no intention of trying to fire this beast, but at the same time being myself six ft. and 210 lbs. I can't imagine lugging this thing around for a full day of hunting.
Anyway thanks for the info,

Paul

Locate a Dixie Gun Works catalog..

in the back you will find a chart with line engraving showing the hammer styles
used for specific years.
Basically, anything with hammers were considered Damascus, hammer-less MAYBE fluid steel. NOT ALWAYS!

post some pics.

Try www16ga.com & shotgunworld.com and search for "Damascus", should find info.

jroathWA,
The OP noted that it's not an external hammer style. Since Remington calls their Damascus barrels 2 stripe, I'm guessing the difference is apparent. It seems to be a K or KE model. The OP call tell if the ejectors are selective.

Dismount the barrels and look at underside of same...

there should be "single alpha character" then a second line about 3/4" down
with two "alpha characters"

e.g.: "B"

"E O"

top is the grade "B"

first of second line is "E" (for ejectors) & "O" for "ordinance steel" barrel

Search the www.16gacom, as last fall there was a post for what characters should be found for Damascus barrels.
