Remington Buckhammer slugs in a smoothbore barrel

Recently I was trying to research whether it was safe to shoot Remington Buckhammer slugs in a smooth bore barrel. According to the website and packaging they are designed for rifled barrels. I have found very few references online so I asked Remington through their Help Center.

"I have a 870 express 18" smooth bore barrel. Is it ok to shoot buckhammer slugs? I realize they get best accuracy from rifled barrels."

They answered.

"Thank you for contacting Remington Country. Yes, you can safely shoot them in the smooth bore."

Sorry if this is obvious to others but I thought it might be helpful as this slug seems to be a hybrid sabot like slug.

I've put them through a Winchester & three Remingtons, just got off the hill from trying them in a new 870.
They work fine, just watch your choke.

Cyl. bore will be ok. He just meant don't get too tight a choke if you had screw-in choke capabilities.

You can shoot these in a smoothbore, but they are designed with a plastic stabilizer, in order to take the rifling of a rifled barrel or rifled choke tube. They are supposed to be quite accurate used that way. I don't think they would be nearly as accurate in a smoothbore.

Three shots, 2 7/8 inches at 50 yards with ghostring in an 18-inch 870P MAX yesterday.
Good enough for what I'd want it to do.
Flat hammerhead design, heavy slug, a good round.
