Remington Arms .22 Octagon Barrel Identification?

Hey all,

I was wondering if you guys could help me ID this rifle. From what I've read it seems most likely it's a Model 4, but I can't find any information about the tiger striped stock. The barrel length is 22". Serial# is 119xxx. Any details would be appreciated.

It looks like a solid-frame (they were also made as a take-down) #4 roller, to me.

The wood's most likely issue wood that someone stripped & oil-finished, to bring out the fiddleback grain.

It's sure good-looking !

It should date from about 1902, since there were approx 356,000 made between 1890 & 1933.

They were chambered in .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 LR, .25 Stevens (aka "25-10"), .32 Short & .32 Long - all rimfire's.

Which one is your rifle chambered for ?


I had one in .32RF, which I converted the breechblock from RF to CF (no other mods), so I could shoot it using commercially-available (Winchester) .32 Short Colt.

Thank you for the great reply. For the record, I am a total newbie to firearms so how do I tell what it is chambered for? I assumed it was a .22

Every one I've seen has both the SN and the chambering ("22" , "32", etc) stamped into the bottom barrel flat, just ahead of the forend.

Ive got a beat up #3 I want to say its a youth model or training rifle of some sort. Its a blast to shoot and its super accurate.
