Quick question, maybe stupid. I just picked up a box of remington accutip slugs. They look pretty cool but I dont see anything on the box that mentions them being rifled. Will I be able to get any amount of accuracy with these in a smoothbore barrel?
If not could somone recommend another high penitration sabot slug for use in a smoothbore shotgun.
Thanks alot.

If your slugs came in a box as pictured below, then return them. These "Accutips" are sabot-type slugs and are intended for rifled shotgun barrels, not smooth bores.

Some sabot slugs will shoot just fine is a smooth barrel. Some brands (Winchester, at least) even say right on the box that they will work in smooth bore guns.

I used Hornady SSTs in my smooth bore Remington 870 and they shot very well to at least 50 yards, which is more than I can say for some of the sabot slugs that I've tried in my rifled barrel 1187.

In my rifled 1187, the Accu-tips are, by far, the most accurate slugs that I've tried all the way to 100 yards.

In a smooth bore, try them and see. The worst you're out is $12.;):)

Peetza Killa,
Many slugs (conventional and sabot-type) claim they "will work" or are "safe to use" in all shotgun barrels. IMHO, they figure the experienced shooter will know which is which, and select the slug appropriate to his gun. The less experienced shooter, who's not sure of the difference, is just a another sucker -- he might buy sabots for a smooth barrel thinking the costlier sabots must be better.

Have you tried an AccuTip in a smooth bore? I suspect not because you have a rifled barrel gun and are aware of the differences. That being said, perhaps I was premature in suggesting Ruthless4christ return the sabots. They can be the subject of a learning experience.
