Remington 870P or Mossberg 930 SPX?

Hey all, I'm new to all this. I know they're different animals but what do you all think about them? Would you pay $600 for a NIB 870P with rifle sights and extended mag or $670 for the SPX w/pistol grip and grs? I like both and I can't make up my mind. I need help!!! The only thing I'm worried about is hearing how the SPX is picky on ammo and have jams. Will be using for HD and for fun out in the range. Thanks in advance for the help....

I would consider looking real deep into reviews on a semi-auto defensive gun before committing to it. Nothing is more reliable than a pump but its worth looking into the moss. I like the look of that gun but bought my 590 before i noticed it on the rack

An SA shotgun may be fine for HD but I prefer to be the only reliability factor in my gun operation:D

If you are going to spend hundreds of dollars for a gun it had better work real good. The Marlin 590 with GRS would be a much better choice especially with the heavy barrel - the A1 model I believe. If you want to get a semi-auto then save your $$$ and get the FN SLP or the Benelli M4. In the mean time for $200.00 you could get the Remington/Marlin/H&R "Pardner Protector." It as reliable or more reliable than the 870 and is worth every penny. If you have the $$$ now don't waste your time with something less than the FN or Benelli with the Semi-auto or get a 590. I'm saving up for the FN SLP and will happily use the Pardner Protector until I get the FN.

I have both and either will do fine.

I would suggest the Remington is this is your first home defense shotty.

Nothing gets their attention like the sound of that slide being racked.

The Mossy will make quite a clatter too, but the pump king is the king of home defense.

Good Luck,

Greetings spyderco356, and welcome aboard.

First, like the others, I recommend you think hard and long about using a semi-auto as a defensive gun.
Will be using for HD and for fun out in the range.
You're asking the gun to do two entirely different jobs. For many, a factory combo is the logical choice. They typically offer a 18+-inch HD barrel and a field/sport 28-inch barrel with a vent rib and a selection screw-in chokes. Simply add a mid-rib bead to the vent rib and you're ready to explore the shooting sports.
