Remington 870 Trigger creep question

I have a within 2 month of age 870 Express. Replaced the trigger/sear spring, very lightly polished the sear and hammer engagement. The trigger is safe (tested with slugs) and crisp at engagement/release. Upon squeezing the trigger there is slack, some creep (feels a tad scratchy), then the engagement/release. I do not mind the slack, I like the clean breaking engagement/release, the scratchyness I do not like. For years I shot bullseye and I like a smooth trigger.

So the question is how to get rid of the scratchy creep? Briefly studying the trigger assembly it seems to be the trigger itself. Suggestions? Anyone know of a good Remington Gunsmith in N. California (I live in the East Bay)?

Thanks in advance! :)

What parts do you polish? I was thinking about doing my 870P because the trigger is very stiff. I have a dremel... do you use a polish like flitz???

Hi Coop,

I used a small dab of metal polish (Flitz will work) on the sear and hammer engagement and lightly at a slow speed, using my electric dremel (with soft buffing tip) to polish.

Careful, polish lightly, you do not want to change the engagement angle. SAFETY FIRST. If you can be patient, I am still working on it. I figured out when the creep is scratchy, my day off work tomorrow, will study and work on it more. Once I have it down perfect, I will share what I did, for now I recommend that you hold off. The trigger is 90% where I want it, I will get that 100%!
