I need some assistance. I have a 1985-vintage Remington 870 "Special". It has a straight (English) butt stock and a 21" (I think) vent rib barrel.
I just ordered and received a Knoxx SpecOps recoil reducing stock, which included a forestock. The butt stock part of the Knoxx stock fits great, but the forestock won't work because my forend tube is too short. The threaded portion of the tube is not long enough to stick out the front end of the forestock to allow the retainer nut to be put on. In fact, it's a good 2" short.
I called Knoxx (aka Blackhawk), and they were no help. I called Remington, and they were also no help. They said all forend tubes on 870's are the same length. Now, I know for a fact that the Knoxx stock is designed to work on 870's, and know people have used them on 870's. So, what gives?
The tube portion of the forend tube on my 870 Special is 4-1/4" long. Did the Specials have shorter than normal forestocks, and therefore shorter forend tubes?
