Remington 870 Marine Mag in Az?

Hi guys!

I've been hanging out at the forums for a while, but this is my first post! The Marine Magnum seems to have a pretty good reputation here, and I've decided to make it my first SG- my problem is that I can't seem to find one here in Phoenix Az! Can anyone help me out?

And does anybady have any comments, good and bad about this piece?

Thanks!
Greg

I have an 870MM and I love it.
I used to live in Tucson and the evap coolers destroyed my shotguns... The MM eliminates ANY corrosian or rust problems... plus the Nickle coating really slicks uo the interior action a lot... needs almost no lube.

The only thing I did to mine was send it to Hans vang for the VangComp and his excellent 2 shot Mag extension... I also have the SureFire 6 volt Tactical forearm with handloop.

These guns are a limited production piece and so they can be hard to find... but the nickle coating runs rings around the Mossey MarineCoat and is far more rust-proof than the Winchester1300 Stainless Steel.

Try Rockey's house of guns in Lake Havasu City...

The gun is woth the wait and will be the only shotgun you ever need... After Vang Comp you will be able to shoot 25 - 25 at skeet with the stock 18 inch Cly barrel and 1 inch 00 9 pellet groups at 10 yards!

I also have a Rem MM. Love it. I have a SpeedFeed stock on it that holds an additoinal 4 rounds. That bascially gives me 10 rounds "on or in" the gun itself.

My next step is to have some choke work done. I have not decided who I will have the work done by...

BTW, the MM sell for about $389 here in Houston.

NRA? Good. Now joing the GOA!

CMOS, may I recommend getting the forcing cone done instead of or while the choke's getting tweaked?

Advantages:
Rounder pellets mean more in the pattern instead of out there somewhere.

Slightly less recoil.

Disadvantages:

None. Cost should be less than $50/bbl for most shotguns.

Dave, the forcing cone is on my list! I'll have that done at the same time I have the chokes installed.

Funny thing, I just found out I live about 3 blocks from Briley's. I hear they are very good, as well as proud of their prices.

CMOS, I've not heard a bad word about Briley, so enjoy. Should have known you'd know about a cone job, sorry.

Nothing to be sorry about my friend. I still have lots to learn.

I have not decided who I am going to have do the work yet. Briley's seem to be the most expensive out there. I'll at least look in to some others first.

That cylinder barrel has got to go!

Greg -

Try giving Jim at Bear Arms in Scottsdale a call. (S.E. corner of Scottsdale Rd. and Shea) He may or may not have one in stock, but he has always ordered/been able to find guns for me.

Lone Wolf on the West side had an 870 MM or two back in December - but they were high on their pricing.

I was initially looking to get a MM, but found that they're not authorized for duty so I ended up getting an 870P. I use an evap cooler this time of year, no rust problems - I just keep dessicants in my safe.

B. Richards: I also have a Marine Magnum which I enjoy. I have a speedfeed solid stock, sidesaddle, Sage ghostring sights, porting, and a Giles sling. I have a question for you about the Vang 2rnd extension. I believe I've seen a picture of this item - does it come with the side metal "loop" for the sling attachment? I'm confused since my Giles sling is already attached to a pc. like that that fits between the stock mag extension tube and the magazine. If the vang ext. comes with this, what needs to be done? Do I cut the nylon on the Giles, and then have it resewn onto the loop on the vang ext? I'm either going to replace my stock mag extension or remove it entirely and try to replace with a endcap (any idea where I'd be able to get one of these other than from the factory?)

I have an 870 MM also and just love it. Very corrosion proof and extremely reliable.

Hey CMOS
Why don't you like the "improved cylinder" barrel? Mine seems to do a good job out to about 20 yards. What would replace it with?

Thanks

Greg, others: why do the evap coolers cause rust -- do they result in high interior humidity? (My sister-in-law and her family live in Tucson, but I haven't paid much attention to the weather there.)

EricO: the Vang extension comes with a removeable sling attachment that slides over the tube and is held in place by a spring clip. It may well be the same as the attachment that's already on your sling.

GaryO: I, too, got very strong patterns with OO buck out of the factory Rem IC barrel (which, by the way, has no mark on it that I can find that says how it's choked -- only the box). I did purchase one of Hans Vang's current batch of "specials" -- he's selling barrels for a price that translates to about $80 for the barrel itself plus the choke work, but I have not patterned it yet. (Dave, I know this was not the economy solution -- forgive me!) (:-)

I too have an 870 MM; bought as a X-Mas gift for my daughter in Dec of 98. We both love it, and she picked it out herself. :D Price was right, too! :) Got for $379.95 + tax.

I got it!

Thanks to everyone here for the help, I ended up locating one at an Arizona Sportsman store, since I am a member at their local range I got a discount on their original price of 519 (yikes!). Mine ended up being 430 out the door. Not the best price, but not the worst. In any case, I shot her yesterday, and it is sweet! I look forward to many years of faithful service.

Thanks again!

New Silver 870, Unbelievable...

they are real easy to get in nyc and the areas around the apple.after reading so much good stuff about the reveared 870 mm,just had to have one.beside an excellent finish(which i wish was a little more of a polished, nickel, silver color),it actually feels/points better than my tact 2 1100 with the full pistol grip stock, which you can actually control with 1 hand(for about 7 seconds with a strong arm).i also installed the knoxx "breachers grip" on day 2,and this silver 870 is beyond words...real 1 handed control,if you need to only.a shotgun of any length is a 2handed operation. so i guess what im trying to say is this new addition to my collection has immediately found its way to the top of my hd choice.havent put it down yet. rem 870 mm with knoxx breachers grip is the best handling sg i have handled, and ive handled quite a few in recent years.shoots/actions like a freakin dream. and thats all i have to say about that.

get one,whatever it takes,get one...

im not easily excited,i research, compare and then buy,but after buying this 870mm pretty much as an impulse purchase due to its out of the ordinary finish,i ask myself why i did not notice it sooner? honestly, these posts you guys put up are really the reason i now own this great gun.for that i say thanks to all your keen observations and opinions.i learn alot. i bought my 870mm 10 days ago,my guy got it in 2 days ago and im really amazed with the finish, the action is slippery smooth and i just wont put it down.i havent enjoyed a gun buy like this since 1981.rem 870mm seems that good.my son is "on the job" in nyc/manhattan,he has seen it all(just about)and he is telling all his buddys how cool this sg is.this sg has moved into the"go to" hd tool in a matter of 2 days.thats how good it feels.oh,this knoxx "breachers grip"is something else.ran to the range yesterday evening to check on the promises made by the great phone guy at knoxx industries, put 15 slugs(2 3/4) thru,my son put 10 down the alley, and this guy from knoxx was not bull*******. no he was not.for a pistol grip setup,im guessing recoil diminished at least 50% maybe more. IM IN LOVE...
