does anybody know what the largest capacity extension i can fit onto a 28 inch stock 870 without the extension extending past the end of the barrel? 4 fit into it now when i remove the green plug. the most i have found is a 5 rnd extension from midway for 46.99,maybe somebody has used a different one with good results? any help is appreciated. if you have any questions just ask.

My 18.5" has the 6+1 extension, which is flush with the barrel, I'd imagine with the 28" barrel(I believe you mean that not 28" stock) you can get away with the 8 or 10 round extension. As for price I do not know, any 870(the 6 or so) I've ever bought were with it already in place.

I plan to call them if possible tommorow. However,If any body has first hand expirience i would still like to hear about it. Thank you both for the replies so far, especially with it being so late.thank you very much

Probably the 9 rounder, but it's a moot point.

I've handled and shot an 1100 with such an extension. Owned by one big, strong lout, it handled like a pig on a snow shovel.

As the tube empties, balance point moves back. That happens with all repeaters, but it's exacerbated in the longer models.

I personally think a two shot extension is the best compromise.

Of course, YMMV.

You will need an extension that is 16.25" long to be even with the muzzle on a 28" barrel. That's one long tube and a lot of weight up front.

It would give you 10+1 capacity maybe 11+1.

I would go with a 24" barrel and tube extension that's even with the muzzle. This setup would give you 9+1 capacity and a lot less weight in the front.

A 21" barrel will give you 8+1 cap.

Tired old advice from a tired old phart: learn to shoot one, load one. Shotgun sensei Louis Awerbuck sez: "No magazine is ever big enough."
