Remington 870 identification?

Ok, I know I'm new here but I've looked around quite a bit before posting this question.
I'm pretty sure Remington has issues with model identification and Serial Numbers as far as records go..

Here's my situation.
I have a 20ga Remington 870LW Magnum, so says the receiver. SN is W659XXXU. It is all glossed up Walnut and blued like a Wingmaster, but I can't find anything stating exactly what it is. I called Remington and they said it was mfg. in 1988 but couldn't tell me anything else. I looked on Remington Society and found information regarding an 870 LW but not magnum. The original owner is saying he bought it circa 1998, however the factory box has 2006/2007 dates on it.

As far as barrel codes, mine reads
XL 3 "symbol" S
RI

It is a 28" VR with Remchoke. I'm a little overwhelmed with the amount of information vs. applicable information.

Does anybody have any good information that could help me identify this shotgun? I would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

AFAIK, The standard M870-LW's had smaller Mahogany stocks, not Walnut & 23" bbls (1982-83).

The M870-LW Magnum you have was made in 20ga only, weighed 6lbs with a 26" or 28" bbl, & was mfg 1972-1994.
Remchokes became standard in 1987.

"R" = November
"1" = 1988
