Remington 870 and 1100 Woes Update...

http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=456091

In this thread several weeks ago I discussed how I had two Remingtons fail on the same day at the skeet range... The repairs have been completed...

From the Remington Warranty Center Gunsmith's notes:

870 Wingmaster:

Chamber is undersized.. Reamed to Spec and polished.. Factory extractor spring is too weak. Replaced with new spring.. Test Fired

(This Wingmaster was a replacement for the Lemon Wingmaster, Remington gave up on fixing)

1100 Skeet:

Action bar assembly fractured. Installed new action bar.. Test Fired

The funny thing about the 1100 is that i've never fired anything hotter than 3 Dram Skeet loads through it and the action bar problem resembled something that might occur with many rounds of far hotter loads than what I feed it..

300 Weatherby, you are slowing turning me into a Remington hater. That is ridiculous that a Wingmaster, or any other gun for that matter, was allowed to leave the factory with the chamber cut to small.

These kinds of issues are unfortunately not unique to Remington ...but the good news is, Remington will apparently stand behind their products.

OTOH, I've handled and shot a few new WMs in the last couple. Worked fine and one was slick as glass at about 100 rounds through it.

Remington customer service may or may not be good, but in the last half century or so I haven't needed it.

That's on.....

6 870s.

2 700s.

1 742.

1 760.

1 788.

1 30 (17 Enfield in sporter drag)

And a partridge in a pear tree.....

Trust me... I was a little bit cranky about the undersized chamber!!

I wouldn't be near as ticked about the chamber than I would be about the Action Bar. We had a 391 action bar fracture with under 9,000 rnds of half fed top gun and half AA supersports, no hotter loads than those. We also had a 391 reciever crack under the same diet. I forgive human error, but when a part of the design fails, trust slips.

There must have been something seriously wrong with that 391... Don't they have a recoil buffer in those???
