My father asked me to post this thread for him,

He was set on buying the remington 7615 but then realised how much cheaper a bolt action howa was.

My question, is the remington 7615 in 223 remington worth the price or should he just go with the howa even though its not pump action?

Whats the purspose of the gun?

Hey mate,

if you asked me it depends on your plans for the gun are. im an Aussie too and normally if your after a pump here it because you intend on faster follow up shots.

Iv shot the a few Remington pump actions, they are nice guns, however if your wanting long range accuracy well past 200m you are better off with a bolt.

the pump iv found is better for more rapid style off hand shooting. such as Rabbit and Roo shooting even pigs (legally of course) normally inside 200m for me anyway. i tend to use my heavy barrel Tikka t3 .223 for my fox shooting however as you normally only get one shot at them anyway under spotlight.

If cost is an issue have a look at Usedgunsaustralia, save decent amount of money off new plus you sometimes get scopes etc thrown in. Suggest you have a look there.

THE HOWA 1500 IS A REALLY GREAT B/A RIFLE. OTHER THAN THE REMINGTON MODEL 722/721.700 SERIES, THE HOWA IS MY FAVORITE. EASY TO MAINTAIN, GOOD PARTS AVAILABILITY, & RESPONDS WELL TO "ACCURIZING" EFFORTS.

SUGGESTION: PURCHASE A BARRELED ACTION IN THE CALIBER YOU DESIRE. INSTALL THE BARRELED ACTION IN A BELL & CARLSON "CARBELITE" STOCK. INSTALL A SET OF LEUPOLD / BURRIS TWO-PIECE DUAL DOVETAIL BASES & A SET OF LOW DUAL DOVETAIL RINGS. INSTALL A BURRIS 3X9 FULLFIELD SCOPE (objective needs to be < 50 mm in diameter) & YOU WILL HAVE A ROCKING RIG YOU WILL ENJOY FOR A LIFETIME----I PROMISE !!!!

I would not spend the $$ on the Rem 760. An AR is not much more and is a lot more rifle(unless you're in an area which is restrictive of semi auto rifles).
I have 5 Howa rifles and all are good buys for the price. The Howa 223 does not handle bullets over 60 grains and likes 50 grain best in my experience.

IF you always do as you always done,You'll always get what you always got.Just depends on your needs, fast action?/Slow action? Prices very.;)

I have both Remington M700 and Howa M1500. I know it's not the pump the OP referenced but my Remington can't hold a candle to the Howa even it it was 200 dollars more. Howa's actions in the pillar Hogue stock are very, very hard to beat.

And Mobuck— mine (all 1x12) shoots 62 grs fine.

Well... i am still torn to wich to buy.

I already have a tikka t3 lite stainless in 22-250 that will shoot rings around a Howa all day long!!!

the remington is real nice and real fast but pricey

Whats dad going to with this rifle. The 7600 makes a nice carry gun, shoot great off hand has a pretty good atermarket parts,But its not a bench gun not what it was designed for. hunting & home defence it shines.GOT one 2 months ago at the gun show for 525.00.Havent shot any groups yet but it will do bowling pins @ around 150yards. quick & easy good luck with your choice.;)

Howa bolt action will more than likely shoot better. They are well made guns and are a great seller for us. People really like them and most people are having pretty decent accuracy with them.
