i am concidering purchacing one of these in 35 Whelan. for those of you who have this specific rifle model how do they perform, is reliability acceptable for a hunting rifle. how do they feel in the hands, (having only handled the pump model) do they point well, etc etc. or am i just wasting my time.

I have the syntheti version in .308, so I can't comment on the 35 Whelan.

It's grand for hunting, recoil is fine, accuravy is also decent. I am a crap shot but can get 2 inch groups.

Warnings:
1. The synthetic fore-end is of different dimensions to the wooden one, so the Harris bipod adapter will not work on it.

2. The chamber is tight, military surplus ammpo does not extract in mine. American made .308 seems to function fine.

3. No bloody studs for a sling/ Why can't Remington install these? Do they expect you to hump the rifle around all day with no sling. Installing your own studs voids the factory warranty on the stock.

I bought it, because here in CA, it is the only semi .308 you can get with 10 round mags available.

Bowser.

I am also looking to buy on of the 7400 but in 30-06, 55gr to 200 gr should be able to hunt anything on the planet. Here in colorado I have found the cheepest price of $375.00 for the carbine 18 1/2 barrel.
