Remington 710

I have been looking at the Remington 710 in .30-06 and I would like to know all of your thoughts on this rifle. I don't expect it to be a stellar performer. I plan on having a custom rifle built but don't have the cash yet. I would like to get something in the mean time and I don't want to spend too much to avoid cutting too deeply into the budget for the custom.
Thanks

On what action would you want your custom rifle?
IMHO, if you want a Rem action custom, fork out the cash for a 700, shoot the hell out of it until you've got the money for your custom rifle, and then use the action you have on hand.
Personnaly, I tend to steer away from stuff fresh on the market, until a couple of years have proven (or not) their quality and possible longevity.
Just my 0.02 :)

I haven't actually laid eyes on one of these yet but have read up a bit on them. They look kinda cheap built, and the key to unlock the bolt has the stench of gun control advacasy about. I'll not support that. My advise would be to spend just a few more dollars and buy an ADL if you want a cheap but well built rifle.

Yea, they seem not up to normal Remington quality. If you want something cheap but good, I would recommend a Savage.. or a used 700.
