has anyone bought , fired, held, or read anything about the new remington model 710 rifle? if you have please tell me what you think about it. I may be in the market to buy 2 of these rifles. thanks in advance

Some people I know ahev gotten some 710's. They didn't like them and after a few months ended up selling them. I recommend that you get a couple 700's instead. The Remington 700 ADL looks like a good replacement as that is what I plan on getting. One of the cons of the 710 is that you can't replace the barrel, and there are a few other things I can't remeber.

What exactly are you looking for the rifle to do---or be???

I just shot my new 710 for the first time today.

oooopppps------sorry about the double post.

I just want a rifle that will shoot where I aim, function smoothly, function everytime I need it to, and not fall to pieces while I'm using it. I understand that these are inexpensive rifles and need to know if they are junk like Remington's other cheap guns, ie. the 870 express. My son and I will be using them to back-up our single-shot rifles on a major hunt next fall. They may not be used during this hunt but if needed I have to know they will perform. Several years ago I went on a hunt and broke the firing pin on my primary rifle and didn't have a backup gun with me so my hunt was cut short. I do not want to be in that position again.

you stated that you have one .....tell me about it...

how is the balance, is it well built, does it feel good and shoulder well?
how is it for accuracy at various yardage? How well does it feed?

any help will be appreciated

I basically bought the 710 for a back-up gun to leave in the pick-up while hunting--it was only $329 complete with scope. My other 2 rifles are Weatherby's and the thought of having one of them stolen etc. just didn't sit well with me.

Using the cheap Winchester .30-06 150 gn loads---I was getting good groups immediately(1'' at 100 yds) and had the thing dialed in within 10 rounds.

It is a cheap rifle and the scope is not the best---but for my purpose it's perfect---it was priced right and accurate----if it gets stolen it will still be a loss--but not like losing a Weatherby--Leupold scope and Talley rings and bases.

The balance is ok--maybe a little barrel heavy-- and it seems to be a fairly rugged rifle--only time will tell on that one.

Actually--I felt little recoil shooting off the bench---but be carefull of the scope because the eye relief isn't that good.

It feels a little thick in the handle--but not hard to get used to. It feeds from the magazine perfectly----but the mag is a little hard to load its self---kind of like trying to load a giant 9mm mag---once its mag loaded it works fine in the rifle-----and the mag takes a little trick to get in the rifle---when you get the hang of it---it only takes light finger pressure to get the mag seated.

The action is a little stiff---but I think all 710's are like that----part seems to be the plastic liner---part just needs some use to break it in----it feels like it will get smoother with time and use.

The trigger is a little creepy---but when it finally lets off ---its fairly crisp and light. The firing pin snaps pretty hard.

I only shot it at 100 yds---but I was getting really good groups---considering the cheap rifle and cheap ammo. These were good groups for any gun.

This stupid rifle with the ugly gray stock is kind of starting to grow on me.

thank you very much for the info. I probably buy 2 of the ugly things based on your experience with yours. I plan to rescope them both with BSA Contender scopes and will hope for the best. They will be used to backup our Ruger #1's on a caribou hunt. They should be adequate at 100 yards.
once again THANKS

I think I would stay away from the 710's. You can buy a Howa 1500 (same as the weatherby vanguard) for $289.00 . The 700 ADL is $349 at the local Walmart. Savage 110 is a dead solid performer and is $339.00. If the 710 was $150.00, I might say give it a try. For a back-up that needs to be 100% reliable there are a lot better choices. The NEF handi rifles are under $200 and are great shooters. They make the perfect Back-up/ truck gun. Good shooting, Weagle

handi rifles

I just got my son a 243 superlite handi rifle with an inexpensive tasco scope that is putting 5 rounds inside a 1x2 inch at 100yds fresh out of the box. I am tempted to sell a win coyote in 22-250 and get another 243 for ground hogs for my self. it is lighter and just about as accurate. if youare into Single shots here is a good replacement. I just wish they made one in 7mm-08. they have them in calibers up to 30 -06, 44 mag and 45-70. For catalog call 978 632 9393

I had a Vanguard from Wally's in 7mm mag for $300 about 2 years ago----accuracy was less than desired---got rid of it real quick----Weatherby should be embarrassed to have their name on it.

And come on---the Handi-rifle is even uglier than the 710---plus its not a repeater. The exposed hammer seemed a pain in the b--- when I looked at one in the store with a scope on it.

I have no problems with Savage----but where I bought the 710---the Savage was $40 more.

The price for the 710 was with scope and mounts-----saw the scope at Wally's today---they wanted $60 for the scope alone.
