Remington 700P, 870P & 11-87P Catalog

Glad you found the info valuable, as I did. Interesting it takes a Japanese website to list it, whereas I have not seen the catalog anywhere on US websites. I downloaded each of the large images and view them in original size with a jpeg viewer - very readable.

I've not seen the 870P with Rem's factory ghost rings. Philadelphia's Firing Line (I have no buying experience with them) lists an 870P w/factory GR sights, http://www.firinglineinc.com/html/d2m2870.html, but curiously lists none with the extended mag tube. ONE review I've read blasts Remington's Ghost Ring design, http://www.angelfire.com/tx/ShotGun/TTS.html, much prefering the MMCs. As always, YMMV.

-IF- I was buying new, I'd like to experience the tritium bead, rifle sighted 870P, product #4999, although being a conservative sort, I'd probably choose the wood stocked, rifle sighted product #4888 with the 8 shot mag extension. Then again, Firing Line has a good price on the 11-87P with rifle sights and extended mag, $575. THEN AGAIN, much paralleling your published thoughts Dave, probably the best all-around solution is an older rifle-sighted 870 on which I add my own mag extension. Ain't America grand with all the options?
 
Thanks, I'm well stocked with older 870s, two of which have GR sights. Mine wear the older fashioned Williams and Lyman peeps, with the apertures removed.

My guess is,going for a full service, optioned 870,and starting with a USED one w/ suitable bbl, and buying everything over the counter, I'd have exactly what I'd want for about $400. That includes extension,Flextab if needed, swivel studs, peep sight, trigger and cone work, and a stock that fits. That's w/o a light tho.

Downside, no factory warranty. Upside, probably won't need any work done,and,no keyed safety or plastic parts, tho that may just be bias on my part.

And America is grand, God bless us all...

I've heard that Remington P models are available from these folks: http://www.gunfinder.net/index.htm. I haven't any experience buying from them, but their website has a convenient quote form for inquiries.
