remington 700adl actions

I picked up a nice deal on a 700adl 3006 in mint condition.
Is there such a thing as a lightweight 700 action or do they put lighter taper barrels only to drop the weight?
I actually plan on going heavier, but I don't want to start with a light action.

As far as I know, all Rem 700 actions of a given length start out the same. They can have different finishes but I've never heard of one being heavier or lighter than the rest. The "light" version of the Rem bolt action is the Model 7.

I've handled quite a few of those ADL wood stocked actions, they all seem light. I didnt see anything suggesting a difference in actual action weights, those were all same action. In 30-06 they weren't a pleasure to shoot for extended periods..

Actually, there is a "light-weight" Remington 700 action. It is called the 700 Ti (Ti as in titanium). It is several ounces lighter than a standard 700 action of the same length.

Among the common actions Remingtons tend to be the lightest, although Kimber is WAAAY lighter. They aren't considered common though. Weatherby/Howa are the heaviest by a wide margin. Savage tends to be just a hair heavier than Remington with Ruger and Winchester somewhere in the middle.

Brown Precision used to list the various weights in both long and short action on their website to help guide customers in choosing which action to use for custom builds. I couldn't find it the last time I looked.

Using an ADL vs BDL will save about 1/4 lb on a custom build since there is only a trigger guard and no bottom metal.

I'm glad to here that all the LA 700's are the same with the exception of the titanium.
Has anyone used any of the bottom plate conversions to make it a bdl dm. Detachable magazine. Cabelas has one that is reasonable at $110
kwik klip
there are others ranging up to about $300.

Hmm... I didn't know there are detachable mag conversions for ADL out there. Interesting..

I have seen the BDL hinged floorplate conversions though... I have kicked around the idea of converting my ADL to BDL... But dang, by the time I get the kit, and then a nice BDL stock, (and I would probably want an OEM stock) I'm in it for almost the cost of a whole 'nother rifle!
