Remington 700 trigger puzzle

I am stumped with a 700 trigger, on a stainless Sendero. Came with the usual 5 1'2 pound trigger, that is typical now. Everything worked as per normal, except that when finished, with a 2 pound trigger, there is a small amount of play in the trigger. That is, when cocked, there is a bit of movement prior to actual pull that will go maybe .015 fore and aft with no noticeable spring pressure.
I'd call it slop rather than creep, cause it is not under noticable spring tension in that small area of movement. If it had return spring pressure I'd say it felt like a two stager. Settings are approximately, 3/4 turn of sear screw out from release point, overtravel set almost 1/2 turn out from the stop, and weight of pull at 2 pounds.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

This is an easy one! I've worked on dozens of Remington 700 triggers. It's unusual to SAFELY get the factory trigger down to 2#, without dialing in a little creep, which is what you've done. Increase the trigger pull to 2.5#, readjust the creep (rear) screw, then try the safety tests. If you still can't get the trigger to safely hold 2.5# with the desired creep adjustment, then go a little higher on the trigger pull weight, until you find out where THAT trigger will work. (They're all different.)

3/4 turn out on the creep screw is more creep than I typically use.

Reason for the 3/4 turn out rather than 1/2 was that I got the occasional firing pin fall on closing. Now that you've splained it to me I can see why I had to substitute sear engagement for pull weight, to get it to consistently pass the safety tests. Still not sure why I could take trigger in my fingers and move it back and forth a little without feeling return spring tension.
