Remington 700 stocks? Recommend me one.

I have a remington 700 adl synthetic stock .243. I hate synthetic stocks unless it is a tactical gun. The only aftermarket stocks I know of are Boyd's, and I don't like how they look. I want a true wood stock with a nice high gloss finish. Do these exist? My grandfathers 700 bdl ( or cdl not sure) looks great and that's the look I like. Once again my gun doesn't have a bottom floor plate.

Yes they exist, buy a used take off stock and refinish it if needed. Check Numrich for a take off factory stock, as well as eBay or gunbroker. There are other stocks out there as well from companies like Richard's Microfit but they take some work to make them fit right, where the Boyd's doesn't. Boyd's does sell a plain walnut wood stock, and they are about as cheap as you can get for an aftermarket rifle stock.

Here's another question...... Did remington ever put a wood stock on an adl? I know they did on a bdl and cdl, but I've never personally seen one on an adl

Yes they did but ADL stock was plain not like BDL stock. You can always buy BDL floorplate might be able to use same follower, spring and magazine then get BDL stock.

Here place for after market stock with bedding block and I have one on long action 700

Dc777,
The rifle in the picture is an ADL (270)...

A better picture...forgot I had this one...and no, I do not use see through mounts...this is the rifle when I first bought it back...it no longer has iron sights and is wearing a different scope.

Try Stocky's Stocks. I found a nice one there for my BDL.

I also have an early 80's, ADL with the cut-checkered walnut stock. Love it!!!

I have an ADL 243 that came with the matt finish and a synthetic stock. I hated the plastic stock. I found a walnut take off from an ADL and bought it. It cost me $90 but it was in perfect shape. I glass bedded the action and floated the barrel.I like it so much better than the flimsey stock it came with.

And if you get the Boyds stock I believe the comb will be too high for you to use the open sights. I had a savage 223 that I put a Boyds stock on and it was impossible to use the open sights after that. But I hated the plastic stock on that rifle also. It was ever worse than the remington stock.

The gun doesn't have sights in it. It has the screws for them though and one of the screws is chewed up, so I'm assuming the previous owner took them off. It is a scoped rifle. As far as Boyd's goes I don't like the wood stock they offer.

Stockys does seem to be more than proud of their stocks, and I still don't see the look I want. I guess I'm going to wait for one to pop up on eBay ( factory ) and hope that I can afford it when it pops up.
