Remington 700 PSS in 308 or LTR in 308???

I just got struck by the "got to go to the gun shop thought" again and went looking for a new toy!!!! I got there right off the bat my eyes were caught by a Remington 700 PSS in 308 for $650.00. Right next to it was the Remington 700 LTR in 308 for about $850.00. I now have got the "got to have" one or the other. I would be mainly using it for my Agency's Swat Team. In that capacity use which one would be the better gun for that type of use mainly. Also, are these good prices for these guns brand new? I've looked in some Police Firearm Distributors Catalogs and they advertise these rifles as new for a lil bit cheaper.

I would say those are good prices. I dropped $770 for a PSS in .300 WinMag which is still on order after 6 weeks. The average distance sharpshooters engage targets at is about 72 yards, which suggests the LTR would be the better choice. It's lighter, has shorter barrel for better manueverability, and a narrower stock without the palmswell. The only advantage of the PSS over the LTR would probably be long distance shooting over 500 yards. Let us know what you end up with. Stay safe.

I usually see the LTR's cheaper than PSS's. I paid about $700 for my .308 PSS, but was seeing in Shotgun News LTR's for about $650. $850 just seems way too overpriced for that gun. I'd shop around a little. But as JonJon was saying, the LTR is MUCH lighter (at least it feels that way) and unless you're doing long-range shooting, you should probably go with the LTR.
