Remington 700 mag conversion

I was told by my gunsmith that there is a conversion for the Remington 700 (police rifle) chambered in .223. That accepts regular AR-15 Mags. I have been looking at the HS Precision mag conversion but the mags are very expensive. I would like to be able to use the Ar mags because they are plentiful is there anyone out there that knows of such a conversion?
 
I don't know if they make it for the 700, but there is now a model of the slide-action 7400(?) in .223 that uses AR mags.
