Remington 700 bottom metal help

Hello, new to the forum. I am looking for a BDL bottom metal trigger guard assembly to convert my ADL in a 243. Everything I find say for short action and doesn't list the calibers that it fits. I read somewhere that the 243 will use the same follower as a 308. Is that true? Thanks

.

In the late 60's, I upgraded my newly-aquired ($95) .243 Model 700 Carbine (20" bbl) with the BDL bottom metal.

FWIW, all short-action Model 700's use the same bottom metal & followers, interchangeably for all the chamberings based on the .308 Winchester parent case (.243, .260, 7mm-08, .308, etc).

I bought the BDL trigger guard & floorplate directly from the Remington Parts Dept, then simply cut out the walnut floor of the ADL blind box magazine well from the inside.

There was a little additional inletting/fitting of the bottom metal, especially between the front of the magazine well and forward guard screw.

I used the original follower, mag spring, and guard screws w/o issue.

Long story, short - order the short-action parts for your .243 M700.

I recommend calling SniperCountryPX. They know their stuff and will sell you what you need but I would think unless the stock is the same as the manufacturer of the bottom metal, you might have to do some in letting to make everything jive together.

Now is the time to consider a new stock. There is going to be a good amount of inletting required to get the floor plate to fit on the ADL stock. If you're even considering a stock in the future, may want to save yourself the time and buy a BDL style stock now. It's not a must but would be a time saver.
