Remington 700 ADL vs. Savage 10

Alot of people like the Remington, but how does their ADL ($cheap$) compare to Savage 10? Overall quality, accuracy? Both are $350-$400. Thanks!

My bet is that you'd like the fit and feel of the Remington better, and that the Savage would be more accurate out of the box.

That's been my experience, anyway.

I think you will find the Remington better on trigger pull, and better feeling. Accuracy differences will probably be more due to individual rifles than to the brand name.

Each year, there's an informal sporterweight hunting rifle match near my home. Usually, about fifty or so hotshot local shooters show up. Winner two years in a row, prior to last year?? Rem. 700 ADL .243.

Winner last year?? Another Rem. 700 (Wally World Purchase), in .243. Guns must not have heavy barrels, but scope is optional.

I know that this is anecdotal, but there have been Savages at the shoot, every year.

I will chime in on the side of the Savage 10 (My new one is in .308) Shoots consitant sub MOA and a more than a Few Sub 1/2 MOA. It is not a real pretty gun but it works. Trigger is easily adjusted to work well. The Rem (Isn't the BDL the cheaper one?) is some what better looking (Jeweled bolt). But I have not shot one.

While I have never owned a Remington ADL, I have owned/own several Savages, and I've never been dissapointed. they've all been very accurate.

Walter, what's the course of fire for that match?

And would you happen to have been the operator of the ADL that won in '98 and '97?

Like everybody else here all I can do is share what the rifles I've owned will do. I have owned two Savage 10's and two Remington 700 ADL's. Both the 10's developed problems within the first 100 rounds and were taken back for repair or exchange, that's why I had two of them instead of one. Now this was years ago, not the new and improved 10's I keep hearing about now. Both of them would lock the bolt closed after firing over five rounds in a minute or two. For all I know these may be the only two defective rifles that company has ever built but I won't ever buy another Model 10. The Model 700's that replaced them are more accurate than I am and have fired thousands of rounds without a problem. Just one man's experience with four rifles.

Matt:

Nope, I've never attended that competition. It's a largely informal shoot, nothing like real benchrest competition. Shooters from several counties show up and shoot for groups. They only shoot three-shot groups. There are no practice shots. Each shooter gets three shots. After that round is over, everybody shoots one shot for bullseye. All shots are at 100 yds.

Everybody chips in $5.00 for each of the events. The winner of each event takes the pool for that event. (Usually $250 or so)

FWIW, I don't shoot any sporter-weight rifles.
