Hi all. There is one in a local shop for $459.00. I hear these are out of production. Either NY or Conn barrel (which ever was Remington or Winchester? I looked at a few mod 70's too so I can't remember-- shame, shame I know :o ). I am assuming it is the predecessor to this:

My question is are these just as good or are they as step up from the package deals there were from Dicks with the blued barrel?

Sorry I don't have a pic. Looks just like the one in the link though.

Opinions? Competitors? Thank you!

If I'm not mistaken Dick's was selling only the varmint in blue, which I purchased. The 700 ADL Varmint is incredibly accurate.

The ADL was discontinued several years ago, but they are back in limited production. Last time I looked they weren't even listed on Remingtons website, but are certainly available in big box stores such as Walmart, Dicks, Sportsmans Warehouse and probably a few others. I've seen blue with a cheap scope for around $350ish and SS for around $480 new.

I'm not a huge Remington fan, but for the money either is a bargain. I actually prefer the blind magazine. Any of these would make a good hunting rifle as is, or as the basis for a custom rifle.

The rifle in your link is the SPS. Same rifle, but with a hinged floorplate and a lot more expensive

Thats a good deal. The blued ones are 420 around my area. Although not really blued they are some type of matte finish. I have one i restocked and its a real shooter. Mine is a 24 inch 3006.

Also, last year Cabela's was selling an ADL Varmint like the Dick's model but it was in stainless.

Any Remington in a big box store is back from the recall already. I just bought a .223 ADL from Sportsmans Warehouse as they are starting to trickle back in from the recall. I had to check back several times over the period of the month as I was looking for one.

I almost overpaid for one on the auction sites but I got mine for $439 out the door after tax and transfer fee that CO now charges extra. However it wasn't SS but they did have a few SS models in stock and it would have been stainless if they had one. Since I'm going to ceracoat my rifle anyway so it really doesn't matter if it's stainless.

Bass Pro (Grapevine TX) has some 700 varmint rifles. I asked to see one to check some tolerances after a gunsmith installed a new trigger on my Varmint rifle. The new rifle had the same fit that I noticed for the first time after my trigger had been installed on my rifle. Has anybody else had a rifle returned from the recall. I have only heard of 2 so far. I am sure that they have done thousands by now. I called Remington to ask about turnaround time. 12 weeks minimum. 130,000 rifles in line for repair at that time.

Could be "New Old Stock" (NOS), this happens a lot at gun shops. Their distributors do inventory and find a rifle/s in some deep dark corner and offer it to their shops at a discount to get it out of the warehouse. What you'll need to know is if it is the X-Mark Pro trigger the one affected by the current recall or not, if it's NOS I doubt it has the X-Mark trigger. If you really wanted it I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.
