Remington 700 ADL/BDL/Mountain Gun

Do you need to take off the iron sights on a Rem 700 ADL/BDL to install a scope?

The mountain gun does not come with sights, but the cheekpiece is lower, why? Does it affect comfort compared to the raised cheekpiece of the ADL/BDL?

Looking to buy one of these three before deer season and equip it with a scope.

Thanks

I've got a BDL with a scope mounted as low as it can go. I left the iron sights on and it does not pose a problem. You can always remove the sights and fill the holes with screws if you want.

Don't know why the profile of a Mountain Rifle stock is different than a BDL. I've read elsewhere that the design of the Mountain Rifle stock increases felt recoil.

I had to remove my rear sight on my 700 ADL Syn, I'm using a Leupold one piece mount and their low rings. The scope (40mm lens) would fit but wouldn't allow the Butler Creek cap to open because it ran into the sight.

You can leave on the front sight though.

I am using a BDL with sights and a Leupold low ring in 2 piece bases. The objective is a bit behind and below the rear sight. No problem. No effect on view as the rear is WAY out of the focal plane of the scope.

WiFAL heard right. I had a Mountain Rifle in .280 Remington that pounded the living daylights out of me when shooting off sandbags. Even a PAST recoil shield didn't make it all that tolerable for me. I dunno what exactly the deal was, but I now shoot a 77 MkII in .280, and it's a pussycat even without the recoil shield!
