Midway USA possibly. Your best bet would be to find an old rifle that is really rough shape. Keep the action and ditch the rest. Also, Howa makes a good action. Howa actions used to be used in Weatherby rifles. I'm not sure if they still are not. But they're a good action as well.

IMHO, if you're building a full custom, unless you can find a smokin deal on a 700 action, don't bother. Get a basic custom action like these. You'll save the expense of blueprinting, increase your resale value, and get features that cost a lot to add to the 700 action.

Admittedly, it is still cheaper to buy a 700 and blueprint it, but I think there is much more value in a basic custom action that arrives ready to go.

Go to a pawnshop and buy the cheapest one you can find in the action length and boltface you can find. Sell the barrel and stock.

Many years ago I bought a Mauser Supreme barreled action (looked like the old Brownings and the new 798 Remington) and Fajen stock and put together one of the prettiest and tightest grouping .243's you ever saw. Stupidly sold it. I was thinking of building a rifle for a hobby (retirement gives you too much time) but finding barreled actions seems hard to do these days. Is there some law on this? In any case I'd like to do this again.

I thought you couldn't buy Remington actions anymore? If not I would look to getting a Savage or Howa action.

You are running into the same problem that those of us who build rifles based on the Remington 700 action have. We now have to buy a complete rifle to get the action. If you can find a used rifle with the action configuration your looking for get it cheap as all you will be using in the build will be the action assembly.

We've started building a budget type rifle on the Howa M1500 action. The action is far superior finish and tolerance wise to the Remington 700 and it has an AR style extractor (a big plus).

Google up Remington 700 action for sale. They are pretty pricey tho but probably one of the best actions out there as of now.

Googled it for ya if your too lazy to go back and Google it your self like me haha
