Remington 597 questions

I bought a remington 597 22 a few weeks back. I'm still new to the hobby and plan to only shoot at the target range.
-Whats ammo brand does this rifle like best?
- Word is the extractor wears old quickly. Any idea how quickly it'll need to be upgraded?
- Will a lighter trigger improve my performance? I've noticed very little creep in the trigger.

Remington rimfire ammo sucks , my 597 nor my other 22s won't use any of their kinds. But CCI Minimags are damn awesome so problem is easily solved. Federal auto match for a penny or two cheaper per round ammo thats decent.

Strongly consider $20 for Volquartsen edge extractor and also $40 for their Target hammer. -- absolutely awesome and damn necessary upgrades. Then feed it minima's and have fun

How much was the install for the extractor and the lighter trigger? Do most shops allow you to bring in the part? Or can they get the part at a cheaper price? Just asking before i call up our local shop(s).
I'll have a $10 rebate from remington for returning some .17 ammo. I gotta find a use for it. Dicks sporting goods sells some remington ammo and Cabelias sells remington as well.

I agree that Remington's rimfire ammo is just about useless. My marlin 60 jammed very often and it wasn't accurate at all. I like the Federal 550 rd bricks. Accurate enough I've never had reason to try the more expensive stuff.

I've heard many other people echo their disdain for Rem rimfire ammo.

My 597 is not ammo sensitive. Make sure you don't over tighten the guide rods. Most of the cycling issues were because of the guide rods tension. Just hand tight will be. Polish the riding surfaces and use dry lube only.
