Remington 597 Heavy Barrel

I was wondering if anyone here had heard anything, good or bad about the Remington 597 heavy barrel. I am wondering how tough a gun they are, how good the magazines are compared to the Ruger, and how accurate they are compared to a Ruger. I like the Ruger 10/22T, but the Remington is almost half the price.

A freind of mine has a standard synthetic stock 597 bought about a year ago. It is a very accurate gun but also very complicated to disassemble and clean. He has broken or lost many small parts while disassembling the gun for cleaning. Just recently we were at the range and the extractor broke on him. He has yet to fix it. I have a a standard stainless/wood 10/22 that has easily 250 rounds more through it than his 597 and I havent had a single problem yet. As far as the target models go, i cant see them being any different aside from a heavy barrel. For simplicity and reliability, get the 10/22.
