Remington 514 extractor fitting...

What exactly needs to be fitted on the extractor on the Remington 514? I came across a 514 today real cheap, that looks and shoots really good (for a cheap plinker/hunter) but the extractor is broken. I thought it just might be dirty but after some cleaning I found that the "hook" is actually broken off. I found a new one at Numrich but it says that it needs to be fitted. Since I don't trust my local smith to do ANYTHING for me anymore and I'm pretty handy at fitting alot of stuff myself....is this something I should be able to handle? While I've got it apart I'm gonna change out the spring as well.

Check that the recess in the barrel

is deep enough that the extractor doesn't hit the metal, as this can contribute to breakage. Also lightly polish the contact surfaces, clean the hole for the spring, and make sure the extractor has enough swing out to safely go over the rim of the cartridge.

Thanks guys, just ordered a new extractor...hopefully I'll be shooting it again by next weekend. I'm fixing it up for a good friend's 12 year old son's birthday. ;)
