Remington 512 -Opinions/Experiences?!?

Sorry about all the questioning about these guns-but, inevitably my twin brother, after I got my .22 Marlin also wants a .22. Anyway, I saw a Remington 512 down at a gunshop for $130 with a Tasco Scope, and it looked pretty nice---anybody ever shot one? How's the accuracy/dependability? Thanks!

I've owned several 512's over the years and presently have two of them, one with open sights, and a 512-P with peep sights.
They are excellent rifles and one of the best buys on the market if you can find a used one in good shape. They are very accurate and reliable. Mine aren't extremely ammo specific, but they do shoot some brands better than others.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I had the need for one.
Hope that helps.

Bottom Gun

The gun I traded away that I now regret most was a 512. Back when I could see better I used to shoot at the barbs on barbed wire with open sights on that little beauty. And I could hit them too.

Traded it for a 98K that I failed to fully appreciate at the time and ultimately traded it away, for what I can't even remember now... Ahh the follies of a wasted youth.

But now that I am a lot older and a little smarter I keep what I get. And guess what I found another 512 at a gun show a couple of years ago. Guess who's safe that one sits in now...

I like those older Remington .22's a whole whole lot. Buy it - if its in any kind of shape at all the price is right.

It's almost impossible to find that kind of quality and workmanship in this age of plastic.
I ordered a Finnfire to round out my Sako collection and was disappointed when it arrived last week. It's a nice rifle and all but I wasn't expecting a composite trigger guard, much less a plastic magazine on a rifle of that quality.
I actually prefer the feel and heft of the Remingtons and have been considering selling the Sako unfired.
I guess I'm old fashioned but I just don't care for plastic in rifle or pistols.
It's hard to beat these old Remingtons. I have two 512's, a model 34, and a 521-T. I wouldn't consider getting rid of a single one.
