Is there any trick to replacing the barrels on the Remington 510, 511, 512 series 22s? There are two cross pins that hold the barrel to the receiver. Should they easily respond to a punch and hammer? Any trick to removing the barrel once the pins are out?

Chainsaw;
I'm interested in the simple .22 bolt rifles as an introductory rifle for very young shooters. The rifle would need serious stock modifications to fit, but the simplicity of the Rem 51x series makes them safe for early training. Many used ones are pretty ugly but may be made serviceable if the barrel or receiver can be easily fixed/replaced. I don't need a $200 gunsmith fee to put a .22 into service. After a year or two of training/practice, the young shooter will graduate to a serious .22 or something bigger.
