Tonight I decided it was time to clean my first rifle I bought which was twelve years ago. A remington .22 bolt action long rifle. I have never disassembled a rifle or cleaned one before. This was admittedly a mistake. I removed the bolt and then the barrel and all from the stock (as a warning and you probably have noticed already, I am not familiar with all of the parts of a rifle.) So I cleaned it and when putting the bolt back in to finish re-assembling it, the bolt stopped with probably a quarter inch to go and simply wouldn't go any further to close. I could really use some help with this!!! thanks!!!

Without knowing which Remington model you have, it's almost impossible to help.

One thing to check: You may have removed the bolt handle assembly from the bolt body and reversed it on reassembly.

Make sure the trigger has been pulled and push the safety the same as when you removed it and don't force it. As every else said, which model is it?
