The objective was to build an accurate slug gun with low recoil and enough power to take deer and boar. I started out with an 870 "L" Youth Model purchased in 1988 by my son for deer hunting. Most of the parts were purchased and put together over a few months time. Finding the correct synthetic MC stock was difficult to nail down because little information on stock and fore-end applications for the 870 "L" 20 gauge exists.
After some research and a lot of help from this forum the project is complete. The details:
1.) Rem. 870 Express Magnum 20 gauge pump (light weight frame).
2.) Rem. 21" RemChoke barrel, ramp and bead sight.
3.) Rem. 7600 synthetic monte carlo style stock.
4.) Speedfeed 870 synthetic fore-end.
5.) Rem. Universal magazing cap.
6.) Extended rifled choke tube (purchased from company in MI).
7.) B-Square saddle scope mount and B-Square 1" utility scope rings.
8.) Bushnell Trophy 1.75-5.0x32mm shotgun scope
9.) 1.25" Super Sling 2.
Everything else is standard Remington Express Shotgun.
Testing with Rem. 2 3/4' Sluggers, 1/2 oz. slugs produced 3" groups at 60 yards. The distance will be increased to 100, 125 and 150 yards when the weather breaks. The synthetic MC stock provides excellent eye-to-scope alignment and is very comfortable to handle. Weather proof too.
Bottom line ... it is a pleasure to shoot. Thanks, DSM
