12 or so years ago I bought a Pietta clone 1858 Remington to carry as a backup while hunting deer with a muzzleloader. I never shot it a whole lot, maybe a box of bullets a year, mainly because of what a pain it was to clean afterwards. Then I moved to a state where it is no longer legal for deer so it's been sitting in my gun room, used only once in the last 5 years.
Recently I've developed a liking for big bore revolvers, acquiring a 41Mag and then a 44Mag. I learned about the conversions offered for the 1858, and decided that it was time to finally make use of what was really a very pleasant-shooting revolver.
I received the conversion cylinder yesterday, I had 100 reloads waiting.
I am very pleased with this item. I had to file the back of the barrel to widen the cylinder gap a bit for it to work correctly; the gun was always tight so I probably should have done this years ago anyways. My first group at 10 yards was not too bad and I'm looking forward to seeing how accurate I can shoot this. Big bore fun with 38Spl recoil...
