I was given a Remington 1100 12ga I have no clue what style of 1100 and I'm hoping to use it for dove and skeet. The markings on the gun are 12 gauge for 2 3/4 or shorter shells it also says imp cyl. And W T C H. On the other side it has U and R.E.P. with a circle around it and a D also next to it there is a marking with a E inside of a triangle serial number starts with L2 and ends 8V. It has a smooth bore barrel any help would be appreciated thank you*

Imp. Cyl. means it has an improved-cylinder fixed choke. Fixed means the barrle does not accept screw in choke tubes, which allow one to change the tightness of the choke.

An IC or improved cylinder gives you a broader pattern than a modified choke, but a tighter pattern than a skeet choke.

I only shoot a little skeet and do not hunt, but it should work pretty well from what I understand.

Make sure it is clean and has a good gas ring. Especially ensure that the gas port isn't partially blocked.

All I know about the history of the gun is that it has only about 10 shells through it in its life time and was last shot about 8 years ago and has been in safe since then. But I guess what shells should I should I shoot as I do not want to mess this gun up like I said it will mainly be a dove gun and some skeet. Also is there a way some one might know when the gun was made and what exact model 1100 it is thank you

You're not going to "mess up" the gun as long you shoot 12ga 2 3/4 "birdshot" or even "buckshot".

Doesn't matter if it's light target loads, #4 turkey loads, anything in between, or even not "in between".

2 3/4 12ga, that's all that matters.

Even slugs...but a slug bbl would be better.

For a manual on your 1100 go to www.stevespages.com -pdf-remington_1100

For cleaning.... check out www.Shotgunworld.com-how to clean a Remington 1100

For serial number search..... www.Remington.com....or call Remington, they will be glad to help.

Setting in the safe that long,a thorough cleaning wouldn't be a bad idea. Pay particular attention to the two gas ports located on the barrel under the barrel ring are clean.

Well I just cleaned the gun and pretty much just wiped off the dust that was in the trigger mech and put a super small amount of oil on it everything looks pretty much new and never used

If you post your serial # I can give you a good idea when it was made. Barrel code could be Aug 1970 or April 1987, but a lot of barrels have been swapped around so you can't trust that alone.

Yeah I was given 2 guns this month by 2 different people the 1100 and the h&r
Pump duck gun but it'll work for doves also. Im just tomorrow to get here so I can shoot the 1100 I wont the h&r for a couple more weeks but it's ok I'll just shoot the 1100 till then I grew up shooting both pumps and semis so it's not hard for me to change back and forth thankfully unlike some people . The 1100 will be the gun I take on nice with the family and h&r will be the everyday shooting gun but I have to pick up a plug in the morning for 1100 as I don't think there is one also have to get shells going to use Remington 2 3/4 1 1/8 7 1/2 Shells and see how it likes those hopefully it will out for me
