Remington 1100 magnum- 2 3/4 inch shell reliability ?

Went to a local gun store with a friend of mine and while looking around he found a pretty nice 1100 that I really like, but it has a 3" chamber. How is the magnum chamber with 2 3/4" shells? From my understanding the magnum barrels have a smaller/less gass port(s) so that it doesn't get beat to crap.

I figure light trap-esque loads won't work, but what about some 00 buck or hunting loads? And if I really want to shoot lighter rounds could I just find a 2 3/4 barrel?

psyco nut,

Yes, you did post this in the wrong forum but if you go to the shotgun forum, you'll find this same topic recently discussed.

We swapped out the barrell with one made for 2 3/4 shells, the gas port is the key here to cycle them shorter shells.

^^Yes!^^

Make sure your o-ring is in good shape and your one gas port in bbl. is free of all carbon.

The 1100m bbl has only one gas port where the 1100 2 3/4" bbl has two ports but the heavier loads will usually cycle.

shortwave; thanks for keeping us straight on this 1100mag and 2-3/4 barrel topic. thats 3 times just this week this has come up, maybe you'll have to conduct a class on this subject.:D
