Sorry that you're suffering from loose latch syndrome. The latch isn't supposed to fall out; but, it's common -- especially with older guns. All that's needed is to keep the latch in place and aligned with the trigger assembly until it's secured by the trigger pin. It can be done with a loose latch, but it's a lot easier if you restake the latch in its groove. There are special tools for the job or you can use a small chisel or center punch and lightly stake the latch in place. Alternatively, a short slave pin may aid reassembly if the receiver is on its side and letting gravity and the pin keep the latch in place.
