Remington 11-48

There's a used Remington 11-48 12gauge in a local shop for $299. It's in very good condition. Is this a good buy? Does the 11-48 have any parts compatibility with the 1100? Specifically, barrels and magazine tubes. Thank you.

1148

Howdy Nightcrawler, I bought an 1148 two years ago from my local gunshop for $189. The gun I bought was also in great shape so I don't know if the one you are looking at is a great deal or not but I can tell you that the 1148 is one heck of a shotgun. I looked up the manufacturing date on mine from the serial number and found it was made in 1953. It is one of the best pointing shotguns I've ever held and I've hunted the last two years with it without a problem. I don't know if the parts are interchangeable with an 1100. JD

Very few parts are interchangeable with the 1100. For the price that you are looking at, you can probably find an 1100. In truly pristine shape they tend to run around $350 -- a little bit higher for smaller gauges. There are quite a few aftermarket parts and barrels available for the 1100 but almost nothing for the 11-48. That said, the 11-48 was a great shotgun.

No...

I can't find one around here for less (the 1100, I mean.) The only 1100 around here is a synthetic model, in Wal-Mart for $369. Being that it's new, it'll have those PC magazine dimples that prevent addition of a magazine extension, as well as the new Remington key-lock non-removable saftey. We don't have very many gun stores around here. Only two local shops, actually.
