Far too much. It'll have to be a magnum length action where your 06 is a long action. I'd look for a good used one. There are quite a few around used. Many folks think they want an H&H until they crack the first trigger pull. Once the recoil settles in their backsides, the rifle is usually for sale. I've seen many for sale used that look like they've never been fired. Depending on your local area, they can be haggled down pretty cheap. Ammo is not cheap and reloading is also not cheap. Add the recoil and it's not a desirable gun for most.
 
Not to mention the cost associaed with the conversion, it would be a damn shame to butcher a 721. sell it and find a H&H or a better rifle for your conversion.
 
I got a 300 H&H and also a 300 Win.Mag. and the H&H is heavy recoil and the 300 Win. will do most what my H&H will do. I got the H&H thinking that bigger gun would be useful but OUCH, I was wrong.
 
The Rem 721 IS long enough for your project, Its also the strongest action Remington ever made.

If you want a 300 go for it. Talk with your local gunsmith, on your rifle all it takes is running a chamber reamer in the chamber and opening up the bolt face.

Depending on the type reamer your 'smith has, he may not have to take the barrel out of the action.

If would be a lot cheaper then rebarreling assuming your barrel is good.
