Rem LTR - Velocities needed

Does anyone here have velocities, altitude and temps for their 20" Rem LTR in 308 using Federal 168 gr HPBT Match ammo?

Haven't had a chance to chrono this load yet, but need info for my ballistic software.

Thanks

HW

HW, I'm not trying to be hostile, but there is a reason folks buy reloading data handbooks, even if they don't reload. I happen to like the Sierra book for its greater amount of information on exterior ballistics. I note that hardcopy on paper is usable even when the electricity is off. :) (Snort, snicker...)

According to my Sierra book, the max performance for a handload with that bullet is 2,800 from a 26" barrel. Guessing at the loss of velocity per inch of barrel, I'd venture that you would have a muzzle velocity of around 2,550 ft/sec.

Based on Mr. Hornady's book, maybe 2,450 ft/sec. Based on Mr. Speer's book, 2,600 ft/sec.

You're on your own. :D

Art,

I own the following reloading manuals.

Accurate Smokless Powder #1
Hodgdon Powder Data Manual #25
Hodgdon Powder Data Manual #27
Hornady Handbook #3
Hornady Handbook #5 Vol 1
Hornady Handbook #5 Vol 2
Nosler Reloading Guide #4
Speer Reloading Manual #13
VihtaVuori Reloding Manual #3

I'm not wanting a guess. I'm wanting actual information from a specific factory load in a specific rifle with a specific length barrel.

Thanks HW

Actually, Art is pretty darn close. I have a Ballisticard (a field reference card with elevation and wind drift settings) for that round in a 20" barrel (at sea level and 59 degrees, with 78% humidity), and it uses 2,520 fps.

:D 2,550 + 2,450 + 2,600 = 7,600. 7,600 divided by 3 = 2,533. :p

Gosh, I just HATE IT when I'm so far off. (Okay, we all know the Old Fart's far out.)

What's a common standard deviation of velocities for a string of shots? 30 ft/sec? 50 ft/sec?

Okay. Apologies for the smartmouths. There's just been so much "stuff" going on that occasionally I'm not my usual serene self.

HW, Let us know what the chronograph shows, okay?

As usual,

Art
