Rem 870 What type of magazine tube?

I just purchased a new Remington 870 Express Tactical. I went with the model with the extra barrel instead of the extra shot capacity. I found some magazine tube extensions online and was curious what was the best to use. I found some around 40-50 dollars for chrome-moly steel and found some "glass-filled nylon" tubes for around 20 bucks. My question is, are the steel tubes worth the extra money or should I just go with nylon version. Thanks
 
The Nylon versions are kinda crap. They work most of the time, but are weak and may cause problems.

There are lots of extensions available from the top of the line Remington factory to lower quality like the Tac-Star and plastic versions.

My favorite for price/value/quality/features is the Choate.
It comes as a complete kit with the extension in satin blue or parkerized, with the spring, a heavy-duty follower, and the barrel clamp with a sling swivel.

This is my "best buy" and I installed many of them over the years with no problems.

Use a 2 round version for an 18" barrel, a 3 round for a 20".
 
If your Express has magazine tube dimples, I'd just leave it stock if I were you. After years of hassles with getting rid of the dimples by hook or crook, I decided just to not bother with it any more. Lots 'o'people will say it's no big deal. Well, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Best bet for a magazine extension IMHO is to buy it factory if you want one on the gun.

Shotgun Yoda Louis Awerbuck says "No magazine is ever big enough." Gotta learn to load it on the fly sooner or later anyway, might as well be sooner.

I like the Wilson extensions the best although some say the Vang Comp versions are better (I will eventually order a VC extension just to satisfy my curiosity and see if it is actually different or just a rebranded Wilson extension).

I have used the steel TacStar extensions but had issues where the tube seperated from the mounting collar under recoil (they are press fit together).

I also like the Nordic extensions for the low weight (aluminum construction) but they require a Nordic clamp (which I do not like) due to their larger diameter.

A factory extension is also a good but expensive choice.
