Rem. 870 problem, need help!

Hey guys, I have an 870 express in 20 gauge:

The fore grip (wood part) is rubbing up on the barrel and actually sanding itself away. Also; it recently was hard to get the shells to chamber without a lot of force. That also corresponded to an increase in the amount of sawdust like material left on the left side of the barrel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Sounds like the forearm is cocked off to the side a bit.

If you know how to remove the forearm w/slides, do that and loosen the forearm nut a bit and straighten up the forearm and retighten the nut. Can use teflon plumbers tape on the threads, too.

Yeah i gotta say break that baby down, dont be too afraid of taking an 870 apart.. i got an old but glossy beautifull 870 wingmaster.. love taking barrels of and switching around .. if im correct it should have two rods under the front grp, id imagine if you took the grip off you could easily see what needs to be adjusted... one things for sure dont just keep chambering and using the gun... guns need respect, theyre beautiful works of art .. get it fixed before you hunt next good luck

If you break it down, which I recommend. You can downdload the schematic prints from Remington in PDF files. I did that when I changed out the "J" safety and did other internal work on my 20 gauge. I took mine completely apart without any real prior experience. Just take it slow, and watch how it's coming apart.

It sounds like the wood need to be realigned on the forearm assembly. If you do this make sure you use the proper tool to remove the forearm nut. I have broken a forearm by using an adhock machined tool (ie homemade). You can find them on ebay for around $20 plus shipping. Make sure the forearm nut is tightened down snug, if it is not sometimes the shell wont leave the tube.

Thanks guys, I've taken it down many times before; but I just can't figure out what was making the shells not go in smoothly (I was dropping them one at a time into the action; it was during a trap league shoot and was really bugging me.)
