Rem 870 ext. mag. tubes

Who makes the best mag ext. for an 870? Have seen Choate, TacStar, and a couple others in the Midway, Natchez, Brownells catalogs. I want blue, not parkerized for the 20" barrel I just bought.

Everybody has favorites, but next to the Remington factory model (which sells for around $80.00) the best buy for the quality/price is the Choate.

The Choate comes as a complete kit with the extension in satin blue or parkerized, in any length from +2 to +10, and with a longer spring, a heavy-duty magazine follower, and the barrel clamp and sling swivel.

For a 20" barrel, you'll need a +3 extension.

The Choate has been around almost as long as the original Remington factory version and I installed them for 30 years with only one or two problems due to a factory defect.

I'd buy from Brownell's because they not only stand behind what they sell 100%, they'll also send you a free copy of their catalog, which is the best "gun stuff" catalog in the world.

What he ^ said.

Avoid Tacstar. They are a 2 piece pressed together extension that has a history of failure at the joint between the extension body and extension nut.

Thanks--I've dealt with Brownells before and they're the best (and only) place for many tools, sights, etc. but Natchez has better prices for most accessories, plus they"re fine folks to deal with. Midway and Midsouth too.

This.

I had one seperate at the range on me once. The tube is just pressed into the collar so I just put it back in. However, now I stick to Wilson, Nordic, and Remington extensions. However, I want to try the Vang Comp some day.

I heard that the Remington ones are only available to military or police. Anyone know how to get one? I'd spend the $80 for a factory +2 or +3 ext. for my Wingmaster, but also did not know what aftermarket one to trust.
