Rem. 788 Base question

Who makes a scope base for one of these rifles? I have a two piece, but would much rather have a 1 piece base. Glass is a Leupold Vari-X II 3x9.

Thanks!

thanks for the replies! However, Brownells lists it as a "long action", whereas this appears to be the shortest action i have ever seen...

What caliber is your gun? I am sure that the 6mm, 308, .243, 30/30 and 7-08 are all long actions while the .223, 22-250, and 44 are all short.

As 788's go, I've got a carbine and a rifle in .308, a carbine in both .243 and 7mm08, and a .22-250 and .223 in short action. Only problems I've ever had were with loose trigger groups.

chiz45, The base you're looking for is a Redfield Jr. My 788 is also ashort action. It's a .223 Rem. The base I bought for it says long action on the box. I know this sounds misleading but is what you'll need.

I'm at work now but when I get home I'll check it out as I still have the box and I can give you the exact model number. This is the best base for these rifles.

Best of luck....Cag

the local shop has a 788 carbine, like mine, but chambered in .243. This gun has a 1 piece base, and it's actually a little flatter than mine existing 2 piece set up. If the one you are referring to is like this one, or is in fact this one, i may need new rings too! The spending never ends...

JR-788XL is the name of the base. It's technically the Xtra long action if you can believe it. I went through this whole process when I remounted all of the scopes on my 788's. The .223 is a 'long action' while the 308 is, in fact, listed as an Xtra long action!
