Rem 750 Semi Bolt Malfunction

Greetings -

I just received a new Remington 750 semi-auto from the factory. I cannot pull the bolt back further than about 0.5 inch most times; it comes back fully maybe 1 out of 20 attempts. The bolt seems to be hitting something that I can't see. I can see the back of the bolt touching the firing pin, and I can manually push the firing pin back easy enough so the trigger/firing pin are not the problem. I have taken the mag out to inspect the bolt; the problem occurs in the same way with or without the mag in place.

Any ideas? I appreciate any information.

It sounds like I need a gunsmith, but this rifle is brand new. I'll be darned if it has a problem right out of the box.

Thks,

Take it back to the retailer you bought it from , and trade it for one that works . Let them dick around with Remington !

Is there a scope mounted on it? It is possible to put the wrong screws into the bases and they will protrude thorugh and contact the bolt making it difficult if not impossible to operate

I don't have a scope mounted on it.

Also, I ordered it through CheaperThanDirt. Any other folks have problems with the quality of their products? Are they a direct reseller or do they get the second grade manufactured goods which they can sell cheaply?

I think I'll take that advice on calling Remington tomorrow.

Thks,

My buddy bought one of these from a local dealer 2 years ago right at the start of hunting season. It's had problems since day one. At first it the bolt wouldn't shut all the way on the next round. He tried taking it back to the shop and they told him he had to go through Remington. Remington told him it would be at least a 3 month wait, which would leave him without a rifle for the entire season. He decided to get a gunsmith to work on it who finally got that fixed. Then onto the next problem. He tried to sight it in, and it shot all over the place. He finally got it dialed in enough to hunt with it, but it's extremely inaccurate as well. All around just a piece of junk.

Cheaper than Dirt doesn't get second rate guns and that's not your problem. The problem is you bought a gun that's just well, lousy in design, put out by a company with even lousier quality control.

So I called Remington today, and the young call center employee with an attitude told me I needed to clean the rifle. But, I'm thinking to myself that, that is just a really poor response. I was expecting full functionality out of the box with a new rifle. Not only that, but I was expecting more support out of Remington rather than a childish attitude.

We have a concept in our company called First Pass Success. This product failed that test, then the customer support failed the test again.

I'm tempted to write a 'strongly worded letter' to Remington about both problems and request a beer summit.

But, I think it will be a little more attention grabbing when I ship this rifle to their headquarters with my 'strongly worded letter' and request my money back. I just don't want to deal with the non-sense that occurs with sending it to a repair center, probably multiple times without success. I want quality, I want what I paid for, and I want it correct the first time.

If you have mounts on the rifle you may want to back all the base screws out and see if the bolt slides back. Some times the base screws are a tad too long and will hit the bolt when cycled....
