Rem 700 trigger

Watched that show about Remington last night.

I have a 700. It has never screwed up, but I don't especially like the trigger, even though it has been worked on by a real gunsmith. I have a couple other rifles (triggers) that I like better.

Is there any reason not to go with a Shilen trigger for the Remington? It's a hunting rifle. I think the Shilen can be set at 3lb or so, and Midway has them for about $100.

I have 2 Remingtons, a custom 700 with a Shilen trigger & a Model 7 with a Timney. The smith put my Shilen in during the build. I put in the Timney, very easy to do. The Timney came with the safety all set up. I think on at least some other triggers you have to put the factory safety on the new trigger. Not sure how big of a deal that is.

I changed mine to get a better/lighter pull, not really any worry about trigger problems. If I did have a suspect factory trigger I would change it out.

Rem 700 triggers

I have 2 Rem 700s. Both had marginal triggers from the factory. I installed "match kits" in both. The kit consists of 2 -I think- small springs. I installed the kits and adjusted the triggers to 2.5 Lbs and they are very acceptable for hunting. The cost is considerably less than the really good triggers mentioned in previous posts and you can install the springs yourself if you are a competent amateur gunsmith. Down load the Remington trigger adjustment instructions (google them) and do it "by the numbers" and do the checks to make sure the gun is safe. You will need a trigger gage to see how many lbs of pull you have.
