Rem 700 short action tactical rifle

I have an old Rem 700 short action that I'd like to build a tactical rifle around for our 200 - 1000yd tactical matches. I already have a Rem 700 Mil-Spec in .308, so I am trying to find something with the same head.base diameter necked down with a sharper shoulder and has high BC match bullets available.

Anything out there?

Thanks.

look at your post in the art of rifle section

I gave you several in your other post on this subject. I really like the 6.5x.284. The 7mm08 is another viable gun for you. If you like the 6mm, I would try to find a smith to make you a 6mm BR

I thought the .284 case was was too large a head diameter

I'll look up the 6mm BR - but not sure it will remain supersonic at 1000yds.

The .284 case head is rebated to Mauser size= .473(same as .308 ect) MORE OR LESS!
The 6.5x284 is REALLY a nice cartridge for a short action.
The 6.5mm bore has alot going for it, balistically with 140grain match bullet for long range or 120 something ones for deer. Get about a 7.5" twist barrel, 8" would do but prolly won't stabilize the 160 or low drag 140's. :)
If you want to open the bolt face to magnum proportions and rework the rails/follower then the 6.5 Rem magnum was just reintroduced or the Short Ultra mags or winchester spawn would be interesting.
I think about 60 grains of H4831 or equivilent in a 6.5x284imp would be about optimum, getting you 3000fps with the 140grain bullets out of a 24-26" barrel!
