Just bought a Rem. 700 BDL in 22-250, serial# 3305XX. When was it made?
Thanks in advance.

My guess would be around 1967-1968. However, it is more than serial # which counts. Check the barrel and if it's original, tell me the markings you find after the inspector's stamp.

The barrel appears original and is a heavy profile. The markings on the barrel, ahead of the reciever on the right side; there is an "arrow head" shaped triangle with a horizonal T or 1 in side it, and to the right of that is a squared oval with REP in side it.
The floor plate and trigger guard are matte with no engraving on the floorplate. The bolt is not engine turned. The rifle itself is in excellent condition with not a mark on the metal and only a few very faint scuffs on the wood. Hope this helps and thanks for the input.

The R.E.P. stands for Remington English Proof. The Triangle shows that the gun has been magnafluxed.

Sorry, should have mentioned it but what about the left side of the barrel?

Where the barrel joins the reciever is a poor stamping that could be a 1 or L. Following that is another poor stamping that could be the top of a P or B. Following that is a 12. The last patent date is 2,585,195.
That's all I can find.
Thanks for your help. :)

The first letter is a "1" which stands for Feb and the P represents 1967. So, your gun was made in Feb. 1967. "12" is the Assembler's stamp.

For further reading, I suggest John Lacy's book, The Remington 700: A History and Users Manual. It's an excellant book which should be updated (printed 1987).

Thank you very much for your patience and info. Shot this rifle for the first time today and I'm getting 1/2 minute with factory ammo; now to the reloading bench. :)

Burrhead, that handle sounds familiar...
Are you the same chap that posts on a certain agricultural board? If so... it's a small world, and ... I'm not going to forget what you said about my sunflowers!!!
